I have recently come across the concept of writing a stop doing list and have found it to be a great life hack.

Why should you write a stop doing list instead of a to do list? I have recently come across the concept of writing a stop doing list and have found it to be a great life hack. I must admit that I am a fan of the to-do list; I enjoy ticking things off and feeling a sense of accomplishment. However I often feel that I lack motivation or that I put too high an expectation on myself and am too busy.

This month I have been trying out a combination of the stop doing list and a rolling to-do list; where I have an ongoing to-do list without time limits.

So what is a stop doing list? Do you find that you are often distracted by things like TV, social media or the internet? Maybe these things are taking away from time that you could be doing other things. This is especially true if you have goals you would like to accomplish outside of your job. For example I work in a shop but also have my own art and writing projects that I hope to one day turn into a full time income. Write a list of the things you would like to limit or completely cut out of your life.

My stop doing list had the following

1. Watching TV

2. Looking at social Media

3. Watching/ reading depressing News

4. Surfing the internet

5. Doing things for other people that I don’t want to do or don’t have time for (learn to say no some of the time)

6. Wandering round the shops when I don’t really need anything

Once you have written your stop doing list you will have extra time in your week to do the things that you have always wanted to do or to start working towards your goals.

Is there a hobby or activity that you have always wanted to try? How can you incorporate this into your week? Maybe you can organise a get together with friends that you haven’t seen for a while.
